We are looking for an entrepreneurial leader in the Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning domain, with broad expertise spanning across technology, strategy, operations, analytics and data governance and management.

You have cross-industry experience and bring forth a proven track record in delivering advanced analytics, data management, and AI network, technology and customer solutions.

You will be a thought leader within TELUS’ Technology Strategy team, and will play a central role in harnessing the full potential of applied cognitive solutions across our company from optimizing our networks and improving service reliability to tackling the biggest human and social challenges like transforming healthcare and implementing world-

class cybersecurity protections. A key focus of this role will be to collaborate across business units and define opportunities to apply AI insights that drive improved decision-

making and stronger business outcomes.

Here’s the impact you’ll make and what we’ll accomplish together

Augmented intelligence is an important component of TELUS’ technology roadmap and future solutions, and this role will drive forward our company’s AI goals through applied analytics, machine learning and automation solutions.

As our Director of Data and Augmented Intelligence, you will mobilize senior leaders and cross-functional teams on various AI initiatives and be accountable for delivering measurable progress on these initiatives.

You will also help to advance TELUS’ industry-leading privacy and security by design focus by being at the forefront of defining the ethical standards that apply to the exciting technology field of AI.

This role is primarily centred on converging our various AI technology initiatives into a single area to intensify momentum and create efficiency.

To that end, you will lead our data science and insights functions, drive forward our network-related AI initiatives in tandem with teams leading our 5G and Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) roadmaps, mobilize cross-

functional teams to deliver on business customer AI initiatives, and serve as a key member of our TELUS-wide AI leadership and data governance and management working groups.

Here’s how

Reporting to our Chief Technology Officer & our Vice President of Architecture, you will lead our end-to-end AI technology strategy and drive solutions and data engineering initiatives in collaboration with our marketing, sales, business solutions, security and privacy teams and TELUS-

wide AI focused teams. You will also work closely with our Data and Trust Office and draw from the expertise of this team responsible for driving our culture of privacy and establishing the appropriate governance and ethical framework for how we use data to deliver positive outcomes for Canadians.

Building on our existing strengths in privacy, analytics and strategy, and architecture, you will :

  • Discover use cases, data requirements and solutions hypotheses; develop technical domain knowledge and data engineering models;
  • operationalize the application of AI insights and decision making; and manage our AI technology delivery lifecycle and business models

  • Envision and operationalize effective AI delivery models spanning across the following key streams : Strategy and Architecture, Governance and Standards, Community and Sharing, Learning and Talent Management, and Research
  • Evolve our underlying data infrastructure and data engineering backbone in partnership with our technical platform teams, data engineering functions, privacy and security functions, and network access management teams
  • Recruit and develop a high-performing team of AI strategists, program managers and data scientists who will collaborate across the organization to envision, build and deliver new solutions to market
  • Qualifications

    You’re the missing piece of the puzzle

  • AI Technology & Data Engineering Expertise : Deep technical knowledge and 7-10 years’ experience in deploying AI and machine learning solutions, applying techniques like predictive modeling to glean actionable insights, and building AI capabilities to proactively enable the business and achieve economies of scale
  • Operational Leadership : Extensive experience in engaging with stakeholders to understand AI business opportunities and leading cross-
  • functional teams to deliver innovative cloud and applied data / AI platform technologies

  • Data Governance & Management Understanding : Broad knowledge of data models and storage, and hands-on experience defining governance models and policies for complex data sets
  • Exceptional Team Leadership : Excellent communicator with a track record of building strong teams, driving a culture of high engagement, and delivering outstanding program results
  • Process Automation Know-How : Strong analytics, digitization and process automation background, specifically applied to implementing complex AI algorithms and solutions
  • Business & Financial Acumen : Strategic investment expertise, with the ability to own the overall financial strategy around people, processes and technology, while ensuring strong delivery on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Executive Reporting Expertise : Ability to serve as the primary communication link and provide executive updates on cross-
  • TELUS AI programs and the overall health of these initiatives

  • Hands-on Technical Background : Bachelor or Master degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or a related discipline
  • Great-to-haves

  • Deep understanding of broadband network and cloud computing environments, and the associated analytics opportunities and challenges
  • Prior experience designing and deploying applied AI solutions for customer care contexts
  • Hands-on experience with software development and defining a software development trajectory
  • Strong knowledge of industry pressures in the telecommunications industry
