The Designer will be responsible for the development and preparation of technical designs using Revit and AutoCAD, writing technical reports, and ensuring that design drawings conform to specifications and design data.

Responsibilities will include the preparation and interpretation of conventional and CAD engineering designs, drawings and specifications for electrical and components, designing plug boards, and building layout for use in manufacturing processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Designer performs some or all of the following duties :

  • Develop and prepare conventional computer-assisted designs and specifications;
  • Develop and create detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications;
  • Provide technical assistance and input on new proposals and contracts;
  • Prepare proposal specifications and presentation documents in accordance with client and / or project requirements;
  • Review and understand contract summaries of work with the ability to offer input into the creation of actionable design schedules;
  • Create and check design information with consideration for accuracy, completeness and adherence to client specifications;
  • ensuring compliance with applicable federal, provincial and local regulations / standards;
  • Collaborate with Architectural and Engineering partners to complete designs and resolve challenges;
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing facilities and field personnel;
  • Work with Horizon North Purchasing and vendors to source, review and specify equipment;
  • Other duties are required.
  • Qualifications

  • Building Technology Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution, specializing in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural studies.
  • 5+ years’ experience with a wood frame building design relating to commercial / industrial / hospitality / residential sectors;
  • Experience with modular / factory-built construction is an asset.
  • Ability to read and create building specifications and detailed construction drawings.
  • AutoCAD, Revit or other CAD software experience required; working knowledge of AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP would be an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.).

  • Working Conditions

  • Office environment with a flexible work schedule, potentially requiring work on evenings and weekends. Trained, as necessary, in required safety protocols
