JOB SUMMARY :

Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and vision and values of the organization, works as part of a multidisciplinary community team, to provide treatment services for children and / or youth (depending on designated program / client population) with severe mental health issues.

  • Performs psychosocial assessments; provides treatment services such as crisis interventions, individual therapy, play therapy, family therapy, education, and group work with children and / or youth and their families;
  • and participates in the collaborative process of developing and adjusting treatment plans and initiates and participates in case conferences / meetings with clients and family.

    Provides information to families and the general public, consults with other health providers, and collaborates with colleagues and liaises with schools, Ministry of Children and Family Development, physicians, community agencies, hospitals, and other service providers.

    Participates in committees, community initiatives, team meetings, continuing education and engages in on going team planning and quality improvement initiatives.

    QUALIFICATIONS : Education & Experience

    Education & Experience

    Master’s degree in an Allied Health Discipline from a recognized program. Three (3) years recent, related experience working with the designated client population within the applicable program, i.

    e., children and / or youth in a mental health setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Valid BC Drivers License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

    Knowledge & Abilities

    Comprehensive knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of behavioural, social emotional and mental health / psychiatric problems in children and youth.

    Broad knowledge of child and youth developmental theory.

    Broad knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counselling skills.

    Broad knowledge of psychoeducation principles and methods.

    Broad knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).

    Broad knowledge of community resources.

    Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.

    Broad knowledge of school, legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to client.

    Demonstrated ability to work with children with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health / psychiatric issues.

    Demonstrated ability to perform psychosocial assessments and provide treatment planning and care.

    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, physicians, school counselors, clients and their families, students, and other service providers in health and social services, both one-on-one and in groups.

    Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.

    Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.

    Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

    Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.

    Demonstrated ability to problem solve.

    Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.

    Ability to operate related equipment.

    Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

    Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
