Our client is a leader in the responsible development and reliable and safe operation of North American energy infrastructure.

They are one of the continent’s largest providers of gas storage and related services.

They are currently in need of a Vibration Technologist / Engineer for their Calgary location

General Information

The Vibration Technologist will support vibration issue management; identification, diagnosis and mitigation of vibration issues in company operated facilities throughout all lines of business.

The successful candidate will report to the Manager of the Facility Integrity Engineering Team in the Technical Centre and will work closely with company’s Vibration Specialist.

This is a mentorship opportunity.

Vibration issue management plays a vital role in the integrity management, reliability and process safety of high pressure facility piping, auxiliary and small-

bore piping, branch connections, & rotating and reciprocating machinery.

The successful candidate will be accountable to participate in and grow the identification-escalation process, diagnosis and mitigation of facility integrity issues, to the development of improving practices, procedures and technologies for the avoidance of such facility integrity threats and to mentorship within the Technical Centre and Business Units.

Experience in vibration analysis and integrity management of large diameter and small-bore piping is fundamental. Vibration analysis of high speed centrifugal equipment and reciprocating equipment is also of high importance.

Candidates should be able to discuss achievements and successes in such analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist with vibration and facility integrity tasks in Central Engineering, Canadian Gas Operations facilities, US Gas Operation facilities, Liquid Pipeline Operation facilities, Power Generation and Gas Storage facilities.
  • Assist in the vibration issue identification and escalation processes, often involving discussions with field technicians to characterize the nature and severity of issue;
  • along with steps forwards to diagnose and mitigate the issue.

  • Collect and analyze rotordynamic signatures for high speed centrifugal and gas turbine equipment.
  • Collect and analyze piping vibration, small bore and branch connection vibration
  • Prepare thorough comprehensive reports of activities, data findings, recommendations and risk management recommendations;

  • Develop vibration test scopes and design review for new assets;
  • Develop visual surveillance and qualitative measurement plans for field personnel;
  • Develop and maintain vibration escalation, monitoring and surveillance procedures;
  • Develop and maintain vibration equipment maintenance and replacement procedures;
  • Coordination and schedule activities for field activities;
  • Train Field Technicians / Engineers on vibration testing equipment and awareness as required;
  • Complete operational assessments and develop documentation required for Management of Change in asset operations;
  • Other tasks as required.
  • Qualifications :

  • Practical application of engineering skills, fundamental understanding of vibrations;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work and interact positively with others;
  • Excellent organization, time management and prioritization skills;
  • Motivated to contribute and participate in the development of the Piping Vibration Program, such as performing field visits, test requirements, equipment maintenance, third party coordination, and development of long term integrity programs for piping systems, etc.;
  • Significant travel is expected (maybe as high as 40%)
  • Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered as an Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer with APEGA, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology with 5 years or more in Oil and Gas work experience
  • Registered with a CET, RET, or P.Tech.(Eng.) with ASET
  • Experience with industrial engines and power turbines will be an asset, along with rotordynamic baselines and analysis.
  • Experience in integrity management of reoccurring failures
  • Practical experience in maintenance, repair and overhaul execution or planning is an asset as it demonstrates mechanical competency and knowledge of applicable subject matter.
  • Experience in facility commissioning is also highly valuable.
  • Knowledge of pipeline and facility operations is an asset, including pipeline and compression performance and condition metrics.
  • CMVA or ISO Vibration Category 3 certification would demonstrate the candidate has achieved level of skill.
  • Regardless of level, the candidate should aspire for advancement of certification level and contributions to the industry.
  • Excellent communication skills are required and the ability to foster relationship development with regional operations and technician staff, reliability and engineering.
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license;
  • Provide a driver's abstract for review;
  • Able to travel to the US and Mexico.
  • Significant travel is expected (maybe as high as 40%)
  • This position will require travel across borders and as such the candidate must be able to provide applicable documentation to this affect.
