We have a permanent position for a : Estimator located in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the General Manager Major Bids, the Estimator is responsible for determining and assessing project scopes of work and to provide estimates of costs (labour, materials, equipment, etc.
and timelines for the completion of proposed projects and in response to internal requests or RFP’s, whether solicited or not.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment, and subcontracts for projects based on RFP’s, RFI’s, EOI’s, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and sub-contractors and prepare economic feasibility studies, scopes of work and cost estimates
Review and interpret drawings and specifications, define and estimate project costs (labor, materials, subs, mileage, etc.)
Review and define site layout drawings to required specifications in conjunction with third party service providers
Complete and submit formal estimates as requested and in the format required
Assist, organize and supply material take off lists for confirmed projects
Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors, source new sub trades, services and materials for future bids and projects
Create and maintain quoting templates to enhance efficiency of estimating process
Keep up to date with company safety policies and procedures
Keep up to date with local jurisdiction’s OH&S regulations
Communicate and collaborate with the SCM Department for external RFP’s; advise on tendering processes, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and assist with negotiations.
Set up and / or leverage existing cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures; review projects costs and revenues with divisional administration teams to assist in future bidding accuracy
Visit project sites as required
Other duties as directed
Experience and understanding of modular structure building maintenance and construction industry
Knowledge of building codes and electrical, plumbing, or mechanical and related codes
Skill in reading and interpreting plans, drawings and specifications (site, services and equipment)
Ability to read and interpret complex RFP and RFI documents
Strong computer competency
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
Knowledge of the complex workings of plumbing, electrical, ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems
Strong understanding and experience with workforce accommodation modules, their construction, complexing and connections to services
