At our lakefront location in downtown Kelowna, we provide our members with top-quality moorage in Canada's largest fresh-
water marina, excellent food and beverage service, social events and opportunities to assist others in the community. A not-
for-profit organization, Kelowna Yacht Club has been supporting boater education and safe, responsible enjoyment of Okanagan Lake since 1945.
This position is perfect for summer employment as it will start part-time hours in late April (weekends primarily) and progress to a 40 hour work week within a couple of weeks.
Under the general direct of the Operations Manager, Dockhands are primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the marina for Kelowna Yacht Club.
The Dockhand is a "hands on" member of the Kelowna Yacht Club dock staff and with within a strong team environment.
Tasks and Responsbilities :
Provide prompt and courteous service to all Club Members who have a boat in the marina (Moorage)
Monitor and maintain the Moorage facilities with the marina on a regular basis
Perform minor repairs and maintenances to the marina's facilities and clubhouse as directed
Ensure Moorage facilities are in a safe and proper working condition
Maintain and monitor the Pump Out Station to ensure proper working condition
Removal of invasive lake weed, milfoil, as directed
Applying decals to vessels as directed
Ensure all boats moored in the marina are recorded, insured, properly identified and fully compliant with the Moorage Regulations
Document and / or report all unsafe practices or activities
Observe all policies in dealing the membership and ensure that all Club Rules and By-Laws are respected and complied with
Ensure familiarity with the club's Moorage Policy and Procedures and that Moorage members comply with the same
Ensure safety equipment is worn and usage at all appropriate times when on the dock and / or boat
Must have Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) or capable of achieving upon hire
Valid Drivers License with a clean Driver's abstract Class 5
Experience working with hand power tools
Effective communication skills to receive and give instructions, problem solve and report verbal and written
Excellent Customer Service skills that addresses responsiveness, reassurances, respectfulness and understanding
Ability to work days, early evenings, weekends and events (based on a 40 hr work week)
Comfortable working in an all-weather environment, primarily outside
Ability to physically lift, pull, bend, reach, and carry
Must be able to work in team environment
Salary : $15.00 per hour
