WSP is currently seeking a Intermediate / Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical department, located at our Nanaimo, BC.

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will play a critical role in managing technical projects and client relationships while mentoring and developing junior engineers.

The Senior Engineer is a key component of delivering on our strategic geotechnical growth plans.


  • Perform all aspects of geotechnical investigations for buildings, highways, bridges, retaining walls, slope stability, and municipal infrastructure;
  • Responsible for review of construction materials testing and field monitoring of geotechnical aspects of construction projects;
  • Prepare proposals, cost estimates and timelines for projects;
  • Lead the planning, field support and completion of geotechnical site investigations;
  • Review and interpret the monitoring information from geotechnical instrumentation and testing programs;
  • Provide geotechnical design recommendations and parameters for analyses and design of structure foundations;
  • Write and / or review technical design reports;
  • Provide technical assistance in troubleshooting construction related problems;
  • Assist project managers with quality control or quality assurance testing issues;
  • Participate in site visits, meetings, etc. to determine priorities in roadway materials issues;
  • Other duties as assigned / required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical emphasis;
  • Registered P.Eng. with APEGA;
  • 10+ years of related geotechnical experience, preferable in the Calgary, Edmonton and central / northern Alberta regions;
  • Previous Leadership roles would be considered and asset;
  • Adept at building relationships within the various technical communities in Alberta;
  • The ability to work with and mentor junior staff is essential;
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent computer skills.
