    Job Summary : Responsibilities : The candidate will be an integral member of Guy Carpenter’s North American catastrophe modeling team, positioned and working primarily with the team in Toronto servicing clients across Canada.

    This individual will work closely with brokers and other GC Analytics members to gather and assess clients’ catastrophe exposure data to best understand and proactively address the potential impact of natural and man-

    made catastrophes. The candidate will be responsible for managing catastrophe modeling projects from beginning to end and will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of clients and contribute to a wide range of innovative catastrophe modeling initiatives.

    Responsibilities & Duties :

  • Collecting catastrophe exposure data for clients, assessing the data quality and ensuring the necessary assumptions are made for modeling the risks.
  • Preparing and analyzing data and modeling results for reinsurance renewals and portfolio management projects for clients.
  • Analyzing changes in exposures and the associated impact on catastrophe model results; and communicating the findings to account executives, clients and reinsurers.
  • Modeling the probability distributions of gross, ceded and net results using AIR, RMS and EQECAT vendor catastrophe model software in conjunction with proprietary software.
  • Analyzing how the distribution of results and relevant risk measures change as a result of the application of various reinsurance program alternatives.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of proprietary catastrophe modeling and mapping tools.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Leading internal catastrophe modeling and GC Analytics projects and initiatives.
  • Qualifications

  • University degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, statistics or actuarial science) is required. An advanced degree would be desirable.
  • A minimum of 5 years of catastrophe modeling experience at a reinsurance broker, sophisticated re / insurer or may have gained experience at a leading catastrophe model software vendor.
  • An understanding of the re / insurance industry and product lines.
  • Technical expertise working with AIR and RMS catastrophe models.
  • Superior data management skills. This individual must have the ability to manipulate, interpret, and extrapolate complex data.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. An ability to translate complex technical analysis and concepts into easily understandable terms for brokers and clients.
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to lead independently and prioritize one’s workload.
  • French language skills would be highly beneficial.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented individual.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive; a desire and ability to lead internal initiatives and research projects to completion.
