CBC Toronto is looking for a daily newsreporter to file for all of our local platforms. You should be a smartjournalist with an eye for the 'big' news and a love for telling the humanstories behind the headlines.

You will report on a wide range of topics whereyou will connect easily with people from all walks of life. You will beexpected to pitch stories on a regular basis and deliver them with compellingstorytelling on radio, TV and digital.

You should demonstrate a passion fortelling stories about the diverse community in which we live. Above all, youthrive in a team environment.

This will a full-time temporary role ending inlate June 2019.

Function :

Performs reporting and editorialassignments related to the gathering, writing and presentation of programmaterial for radio, television and digital.

Work is governed by CBCjournalistic and programming policies and standards. Advice and guidance areregularly available but there is latitude for initiative and independentjudgment.

There may be opportunity to co-ordinate the work of others and closeco-operation with the program unit is essential.

Key Tasks :

  • Develops and maintains contacts with avariety of sources within the community, the area and the region.
  • Conducts analysis of facts and informationgathered; and draws conclusions or raises issues requiring furtherinvestigation.
  • Gathers and reports information fromvarious sources.
  • Decides which elements should be includedin an item, their order, length and sequence as well as the transition from oneelement to another.
  • Contributes ideas or program content;participates in the preparation of program objectives.
  • Prepares stories in a variety of treatmentsincluding voice reports, script / clips, talk-tapes, debriefs.
  • Liaises with other staff to ensure requiredmaterial is available.
  • Presents information and analyses on air ina variety of formats.
  • Follows particular areas of current publicinterest or concern.
  • Performs other production or administrativetasks associated with the smooth functioning of the newsroom.
  • Experience working in local news inCanada’s largest city is an asset.
  • Qualifications

    We are looking for a candidate with the following :

  • University degree in journalism or equivalent.
  • Three years of directly related experience that includes proven ability in the field, knowledge of the broadcasting industry, and an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to Toronto.
  • Excellent reporting and interviewing skills.
  • Knowledge of provincial affairs and community issues.
  • Knowledge of CBC / Radio-Canada journalistic and programming policies.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and on weekends as needed.
  • Understanding of the public broadcaster's role and responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Comfortable reporting live and with on air presentation.
  • Creative storyteller who enjoys experimenting with different story treatments.
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams.
  • Critical mind.
  • Proven ability to work in a high-stress, tight-deadline environment.
  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously.
