We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as Associate Director IT of Innovations and Optimal End User Experiences in Stockley Park, UK.

This role will be a hands-on resource reporting to the Director IT of Innovation and User Experiences based at Gilead’s headquarters in Foster City, CA.

This individual is responsible for discovering and introducing emerging technologies, fostering and strengthening internal user experiences across Gilead’s broad technology ecosystem that may allow information technology to be used as a scientific and business enabler.

This individual works closely with stakeholders in leadership and technology roles across Gilead, resulting in a unique view of the enterprise across all lines of business.

We are seeking and experienced individual to focus on the following disciplines :

  • Emerging technology evaluation. Engagement with internal stakeholders, emerging or existing technology companies, sharing our macro views on technology and learning about new and relevant companies that are disrupting industry norms.
  • Partner internally with business and technology groups to deeply understand their strategies and goals. Focus areas of this role could include spaces such as infrastructure, cyber / information security, fiscal security, application development, artificial intelligence and machine learning, financial technology, enhanced user experiences, collaboration, mobile, big data, analytics, and enterprise software.

  • Strategic partnership development. This role requires organizing, structuring and leading briefings with Business Partners, practitioners, and vendors;
  • leading follow-up activities; and identifying areas and opportunities to influence our technology roadmap, reduce technology costs, optimize the end-

    user experience, reduce risk, and increase business-enabling technology capabilities.

  • End User Experience. This role requires organizing use cases, structuring and leading briefings with vendors and practitioners.
  • Specific job activities include :

  • Research segments served by Gilead’s product. This will be based on developing a deep understanding of Business Partner and IT goals, and the business capabilities and digital strategies of the various business units across Gilead.
  • Prepare briefing materials on vendor relationships and technology strategies for the CIO, IT Leadership Team and other Leadership and Management Functions across the company.
  • Engage with the various IT Business Engagement leaders and Business Partners across Gilead on vendor information exchanges
  • Assist in the planning of Technology Summits
  • Working with Enterprise Platforms, Analytics & Architecture teams to ensure the usage of analytics to drive innovation and enterprise objectives, while aligning data policy and administration with relevant regulatory, legal and ethical mandates.
  • Research key technology areas (i.e., Biotech technology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, information security, etc.
  • to assist our technology and business executives on long-term strategic planning.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage relationships with IT, Business Partners and vendors. Maintain open lines of communications with all parties.
  • Drive and deliver business transformation through innovation, data driven insights, establishing partnership and technologies
  • Create and foster a culture of innovation where the status quo is challenged and continuous improvement via data driven insights and technology becomes ingrained in the day to day workings of the organization
  • Work with the business & functional teams to identify partnerships and products that help our cross-functional teams improve outcomes
  • Create a view of capabilities, road map activities, investments and overlap / gaps across current & future external partnerships
  • Build out internal briefings and communications to support ongoing innovation initiatives for the IT organization.
  • Execute short-term initiatives to prove value and incremental experiments to generate momentum, highlighting quick wins and scales to further positively impact data and analytics services and overall business outcomes
  • Create an innovation management portal and co-manage the IT Innovation Lab in Foster City to collect, collaborate and inform the organization of all ongoing innovation solutions
  • Act as a change agent internally on matters pertaining to the utilization of data, implementation of the analytics strategy and tactics.
  • Ensure a broad understanding of the value of analytics and insights to the product value demonstration

  • Scan and leverage cross-industry trends in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science to apply to our life sciences domain
  • Identify and understand benefits and potential of emerging data technologies
  • Be the change agent and evangelist for shifting culture and mindset for innovation using data
  • Requirements :

  • At least 5 years of experience in Information Technology including project management and business analysis
  • Biotech / healthcare industry experience is mandatory
  • Broad IT knowledge across areas like Infrastructure, Operations, Applications, Architecture, SaaS and Security
  • Successful track record of IT leadership, matrix management, execution and delivery.
  • Experience supporting field resources such as Commercial, Sales & Medical Affairs
  • Self-motivated with high degree of initiative and excellent follow-up skills, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well organized, results oriented and eager to tackle difficult problems
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with executive management and non-technical users
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential in this collaborative work environment
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • Must be capable of working autonomously, is a team player and possess the ability to interact and interface with all levels of management and with global teams
  • Relevant Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, MIS, Life Sciences, Business; or equivalent experience is preferred..
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Life Sciences, or Business with a required minimum of 10 years of applicable industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced degree preferred (e.g., MA, MS, MBA, etc.)

  • Successful track record of leading and delivering innovative business deliverables in Pharmaceutical / Biotech / Healthcare industry, leveraging multiple methodologies and approaches to innovation.
  • Must be able to promote non-traditional approaches and solutions to problems and be able to communicate the opportunity associated with these solutions
  • Must be able to work across the organization to foster an improved culture of innovation, accessibility, efficiency and accountability
  • Understanding of technological trends and passion to develop innovative solutions using data and analytics that support and enhance our competitive edge.
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and management skills; possessing the ability to credibly, knowledgeably and effectively represent and communicate initiatives to internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, multi-cultural, collaborative and self-directed environment
  • Is a strong project / program manager with a courageous, innovative and pragmatic approach, used to developing and leading multiple simultaneous complex and agile change programs that deliver successful and high-quality outcomes
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge in both the in a quantitative and qualitative discipline, using AI, Data Science and applied statistics
  • Seasoned professional, with a strong strategic orientation, who has previously held several business and operational roles in fast-
  • paced and complex environments. Work experience should include success in a period of growth and / or transition. Startup experience is preferred

  • Enthusiasm and motivation essential; a confident change-agent; strong selling and presentation skills
  • Have experience building durable, sustainable networks within an organization and be a proven advocate for simplicity, urgency and creative problem-solving
  • Have a level of executive presence required to interact with senior leaders across the IT and business organizations and to influence and negotiate consensus
