About the Role :

We’re looking for someone who has experience building, developing, and managing a team of developers, who will build and provide operational support for systems and applications that are supporting our VPN solutions.

This role is ideal if you have :

  • Demonstrated success working closely with IT partner teams on multiple projects and enhancements with a focus on customer experience, at a company that managed a large cloud based network or a high-volume website
  • Software development background for a global cloud based application or a high-volume website
  • Proven experience delivering world class software solutions using Agile / DevOps methods
  • An understanding of software development best practices
  • Are highly responsible, self-motivated and able to thrive in an energetic, fast-paced, creative environment
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
  • Creative problem solving skills and an ability to apply business logic to development requirements
  • Are passionate about technology, apps, online security and VPN’s (big plus!)
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

    As a development manager, you will lead a team of engineers, within an Agile development framework. You will be involved in the software development lifecycle from strategy, architecture, design, implementation, testing and release.

    With a focus on delivering solutions against business goals, technical requirements and Symantec engineering standards.

  • You will work closely with the experienced backend development team to understand and define technical requirements, manage projects based on business and technical priorities and schedule work with development staff
  • Effectively manage the team to achieve results by providing appropriate direction, timely developmental feedback and coaching, and conducting performance reviews and conversations
  • Plans for and ensures that management and development staff have tools / skills required to perform job functions
  • Recommends new technology directions in collaboration with Development and Architecture teams
  • Constantly improves the development processes , tools and methodologies used in the development group
  • Delivers high quality features and products on time and within budget
  • Have the opportunity to contribute to product enhancements and create unique IP to better our product
  • Provides coaching and direction to the team that drives action and enables achievement of performance and operational goals
  • Build staffing plans that ensure development teams are staffed with skill sets required to enhance existing systems as well as deliver new systems functionality required by the business and participate in interview and hiring of qualified team members
  • Know ledge & Experience :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business or technical discipline, or related area
  • 5+ years’ experience developing and leading large scale software development teams using Agile best practices / standards, and practicing continuous testing, integration and deployment strategies
  • 3+ years’ of management experience with engineering staff including leadership, planning, and coordination of development work for large projects
  • Experience or exposure to some combination of Linux, Ruby, Python, Golang, Java, Puppet, Chef, Docker or Kubernetes and backend scripting
  • Deep knowledge of software development best practices with direct hands-on experience
  • Deep experience managing teams of software developers, designers, and working collaboratively with product managers on solution delivery
  • Proven understanding and direct experience of working within an Agile framework including implementing and using Scrum and / or Kanban
  • Major input to the planning process with specific responsibility for estimates and risks, with justification, for own work and that of the team
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor technical management and technical professionals
  • Ability to organize several teams and focus on best practices, particularly regarding coding standards and quality assurance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter with a high degree of self-management and commitment to delivery timelines
  • Proven interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts and analysis implications to a wide audience
