term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada. With the support of its funding partners, Indspire disburses financial awards, delivers programs, and shares resources with the goal of closing the gap in Indigenous education.
Through Indspire’s K-12 Institute, it provides resources to educators, communities, and other stakeholders who are committed to improving kindergarten to grade 12 successes for Indigenous youth.
In 2017-18, Indspire awarded $14.2 million through almost 4,900 bursaries and scholarships to Indigenous youth, making it the largest funder of Indigenous post-
secondary education outside the federal government. Each year, the organization presents the Indspire Awards, a celebration of the successes achieved by Indigenous people that is broadcast nationally.
Never has there been a better time to join this national leader. In the position of Senior Event Specialist, reporting to the Director Communications and Marketing and serving as Indspire’s events management expert.
You will research, plan, and execute events for Indspire; as part of its National Outreach strategy, including Indspire-
owned events and Indspire’s participation in external events. You will ensure all event materials are consistent with Indspire’s brand and key messaging and positively represent Indspire at various events.
The position responsibilities of the Senior Event Specialist include :
Plans and executes various events ranging from booths at tradeshows, conferences for up to 1,000 people, PR events, and gala receptions, etc.;
Leads the development of an events strategy that supports the achievement of organizational objectives; including identifying and creating event goals, content, and promotion;
Collaborates with, and leads internal partners and stakeholders, to ensure events contribute to the achievement of Indspire’s objectives;
Manages all event logistics, including registration, location, AV, entertainment, refreshments, speakers, suppliers, volunteers, transportation, on-site supervision etc.;
Manages supplier relationships, event project timelines, and budget;
Creates timelines, critical paths, strategies, schedules;
Researches, identifies, and recommends event opportunities to pursue;
Proof reads all external marketing publications produced by C&M prior to print;
Identifies appropriate event venues with consideration for quality, budget and reliability and manages all event logistics;
Reviews contracts and negotiates with suppliers (hotels, catering, AV, and other services) to ensure high quality event production;
Collaborates with colleagues within the C&M team to develop materials to support events strategy;
Leads cross-departmental meetings as required to coordinate the production of events and ensure all deliverables are met;
Ensures that conflicting priorities are managed or escalated as required;
Prepares post-event reports to analyze success of each event;
Represents Indspire at events across Canada.
Minimum 4-6 years full time professional event management experience
Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) designation, as well as membership(s) in MPI, SITE, and PCMA, preferred
Previous experience with a 3rd Party / Agency Event Management company a definite asset
Strong background in program management and execution
Demonstrated experience in preparing and delivering budgets
Knowledge of and experience in Indigenous communities strongly preferred
Demonstrated openness to learning and willingness to engage in cultural competency training
Strong event management and project management skills.
Detail oriented, quality and team-focused
Ability to multi-task and manage conflicting and competing priorities
Strong in-the-moment problem-solving and management skills
Ability to maintain a sense of composure during stressful situations
Ensures deliverables and deadlines are met
Exceptional skills in event coordination, and production
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Demonstrable supplier management skills
Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends and to travel across Canada (25%)
Enthusiastic team player who is also able to work independently
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Knowledge of French an asset
