The position is located at Weyerhaeuser’s (Engineered Lumber Products) Annacis Island, BC Parallam® plant is located in the city of Delta, BC, located just 20 minutes south of the city of Vancouver.

Our plant manufactures the high strength engineered wood product Parallam® and is a participative management team concept operation.

The Mill Manager position will lead the Vancouver ELP facility as part of the Weyerhaeuser Wood Products business, and report to the VP of Manufacturing for the Northwest Region.

The city of Delta has all the features of a modern city - hospital, airport, libraries, recreational facilities, and numerous bike and walking trails, with a large number of parks, including waterfront parks on the Fraser River, Boundary Bay and Strait of Georgia.

The BC lower mainland region is one of the most desired places to live in North America, combining quick access to the cosmopolitan city of Vancouver, surrounding ocean and rivers (for beachcombing, swimming, water sports and boating), nearby mountains (for hiking, biking and rock climbing in the summer, and skiing and snowboarding in the winter months) and a moderate climate that allows year-

round enjoyment of most of those activities.

Key Functions

  • Role model and engage associates in safely manufacturing engineered lumber products that meets customer needs and driving improvement in key business metrics.
  • Lead improvement in behavior-based safety techniques.
  • Ensures an injury free and inclusive culture is created by committed leaders and involved associates, backed by strong safety systems.
  • Coaches and leads in the overall manufacturing process.
  • Implement processes to continually improve work systems that positively enhance the work environment for all associates.
  • Reliability, financial, procurement, productivity, environmental and other site stewardship responsibilities are the ultimate responsibility of the Mill Manager.
  • The Mill Manager ensures that business and individual goal setting processes such as capital plans, expense budgets, safety strategic plans and performance management plans are developed and executed with excellence.
  • Collaborate with other ELP & Wood Products plant managers to replicate best practices.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Technical (Engineering or other) or Forestry / Wood Products discipline strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial management experience
  • Proven record of positive accomplishments in safety, quality, and production initiatives
  • Ability to develop and engage a high performing workforce
  • Ability to build leadership talent to support retention & continuous associate development
  • Proven record of effectively engage associates in behavior-based safety techniques
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of statistical process control techniques
  • Flexible work hours are required to meet the needs of a 24 / 7 manufacturing environment
  • Experience in cost management techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to develop financial and operating plans and implement course of action
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The following requirements are preferred :

  • Knowledge and experience improving manufacturing reliability
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Experience in Plywood and / or Veneer manufacturing
  • Maintenance experience is a plus
