Job Level

NV-07The person in this position is responsible for the analysis and processing of disability benefit claims. The successful candidate compiles information regarding the cause and context of health-

related absences. The incumbent establishes a return-to-work action plan. The person is the employee's main contact throughout the absence period.

General Information on the Position

Main Responsibilities

  • Process claims for disability benefits in compliance with the clauses of the group insurance contract.
  • Communicate with the employee and the employee's manager to obtain all the information needed to establish the causes and context for the absence.
  • Accept or refuse the claim for disability benefits and communicate the decision to the employee and the employee's manager according to the defined procedure.
  • Establish a return-to-work action plan for each case of absence processed. Communicate to the employee and the employee's manager the content of the return-
  • to-work action plan and advise the HR resource person, as applicable.

  • Define the scope of any personalized support mandate, which will be assigned to a disability management resource person or health professional chosen by the incumbent.
  • Continue to monitor the progress of the mandate and, if necessary, make the appropriate adjustments based on any changes in the employee's situation.

  • Communicate with the health management advisor to coordinate the action to be taken with the HR resource person, employee and the employee's manager for any case of absence presenting a specific job-related problem.
  • Establish the benefit amount, determine the payable period, proceed with payment and carry out the necessary follow up.
  • Codify and enter data in the appropriate systems.

  • Maintain good relationships and act in partnership with Desjardins Group resources and external partners involved in the absence management for health-related reasons.
  • Help seek continuous improvement opportunities in line with disability management-related activities in collaboration with peers
  • Qualifications

  • College diploma in a related field
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in disability file management with an insurer (required)
  • Proficient speaker, advanced knowledge of English
  • Written communications
