The Sustainable Capital Works group of Mining and metallurgy Division, provides a broad range of geotechnical services including investigations and design engineering, construction supervision and management, mine site inspections and closure plans.

It is supported by a large multi-disciplinary SNC-Lavalin team of professionals who have completed many geotechnical projects worldwide.

The Sustainable Capital Works group is currently seeking applications to fill the role of senior geotechnical engineer position in its Toronto office.

The successful candidate will assume progressive and key responsibilities in the delivery of geotechnical projects working with and alongside experienced geotechnical professionals keen on sharing knowledge and providing mentorship for continued development.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

The senior geotechnical engineer will lead multidisciplinary teams to design civil engineering works related to the containment of mine tailings.

Supported by intermediate and junior engineers as well as by CADD technicians, the senior engineer will be involved in all stages of the design of structures, from concept to construction.

The tasks also include participating in technical reviews (e.g. peer reviews), tailings dam inspections, dam safety reviews, and other studies related to the design and construction of mine waste facilities.

Key Responsibilities :

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will :

  • Lead the design of mine waste facilities including tailings dams, waste storage facilities, sedimentation and collection ponds, etc.;
  • Participate in the design of tailings containment facilities;
  • Participate in the preparation of drawings and technical specifications;
  • Participate in the investigations and studies on potential siting of facilities;
  • Participate in technical reviews related to the containment of mine waste facilities;
  • Participate in project meetings for aspects related to the geotechnical discipline;
  • Participate in the training and development of younger engineers;
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals.
  • Key Qualifications :

  • Experience designing dams / dykes, waste rock dumps and stockpiles, and / or other earthwork projects within the mining sector.
  • Member of Professional Engineer of Ontario or eligible;
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in the design of dams;
  • Good working knowledge of both French and English. Other addition language is an asset.
  • Knowledge of slope stability, seepage and stress-strain software;
  • Experience in dynamic and seismic analysis;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • The candidate must possess a demonstrated ability for team work within multidisciplinary engineering teams composed mainly of geotechnical engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists and environmental specialists;
  • University degree in civil or geological engineering and a geotechnical post-graduate degree or equivalent experience;
