The incumbent participates in the delivery of quality patient care by performing services necessary for the physical and emotional wellbeing and comfort of the patient.
Health Care Aide duties include assisting with bathing, feeding, transferring, lifting and portering patients. Health Care Aide may be asked to deliver specimens to labs, order supplies, clean and maintain unit equipment, monitor unit tidiness including equipment and storage rooms.
Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking and lifting. The Unit Manager supervises the position and the Charge Nurse and other team members provide general direction for specified duties.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA) - Nursing Attendant, you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-
term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients , families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities.
You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications :
Must meet one of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirements : Certified - certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-
secondaryinstitution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Substantially Equivalent -
or Deemed Competent - assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool.
Evidence required upon hire; or candidate would be required to register for a HCA course from a Government of Alberta licensed post-
secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum within 155 hours or 6 weeks (whichever comes first), and successfully complete the course within 12 month timeline from date of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications :
Current Basic Life Support (BCLS-HCP)-Healthcare Provider registration required.The candidate must have the physical capability to perform all aspects of the role, including the ability to lift up to and including 50lbs.
Ability to function effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team required.The position required strong communication and organizational skills and must be committed to patient and family centered care.
This position services the Neurosciences Program. The candidate must be flexible to transition between ICU and Ward settings.
Preferred Qualifications :
Basic computer skills, as well as familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.Neurosciences experience preferred.
