Borealis Counselling Services is a not-for-profit counselling agency, providing counselling services in the Fort McMurray region since 1987.

As an agency, our team takes pride in offering professional and meaningful support to the lives of those we serve in the community.

As a clinical counsellor in our agency, the successful candidate will provide client focused counselling services to adults, children, couples and family systems, on issues relating to mental health, addiction, workplace stress, trauma, grief and loss, etc.

in a busy and dynamic team environment. The services provided will focus on assessment, case planning, treatment, and referral to community resources, as necessary.

Other duties include intake, crisis intervention, workshop development and facilitation, and community engagement.


Education : Master’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work. NOTE : Degree must have a clinical focus.

Professional certification : Candidate must be eligible for registration within their respective professional designation.

Experience : A minimum of 3 years clinical experience is preferred; professional training / experience in mindfulness is an asset

Knowledge, skills and abilities :

  • Exceptional clinical ability and judgment
  • Significant knowledge of therapeutic and counselling modalities
  • Substantial knowledge regarding mental health and substance abuse
  • Trauma specific training and / or experience would be an asset
  • Ability to manage high-risk cases
  • Knowledge of legal requirements regarding mandatory reporting and duty to warn
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of community resources and programs
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • This is a full-time position for one year, with a possibility of extension. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package based on experience and education, which includes paid vacation, cost of living allowance and other employee incentives.
