Position Summary :
Tervita Metals Recycling is currently recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager to run our recycling operations in southeastern BC.
Operating out of the Cranbrook region, the Operations Manager is responsible for the safe and effective operation of both our Kimberley and Trail yards, as well as the development of business opportunities in the region.
The Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects the business including : facility operations, bin service, offsite projects, customer service and business development.
Accountable for the operational and financial performance of Tervita's BC metals recycling operations.
Ensure compliance with Tervita’s Health, Safety and Environment Management System, to include leading by personal example to support Tervita ’s ongoing commitment to zero incidents.
Ensure regulatory compliance for operations in the region.
Plan, staff, resource and supervise all assigned business activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations while maximizing the synergy of the Kimberley and Trail yards.
Liaise with other Tervita business units to exploit opportunities and optimize efficiency.
Develop and maintain relationships with clients and customers to ensure optimum customer service and maintenance of contract requirements.
Identify and develop new business opportunities in the region.
Inspire, mentor and motivate all staff within the team, and to provide guidance and opportunities in their career progression.
Minimum 5 years of work experience in a supervisory or management capacity within the metals recycling industry; or comparable industry work experience.
Proven ability to manage operations while effectively managing and controlling costs in order to meet or exceed budget targets.
Ability to read and understand financial statements in order to support business decisions.
Lead by strong personal example and possess a track record of building successful teams, effectively motivating people and maintaining effective relationships with clients and customers.
Expert problem solving and time management skills
Ability to perform effectively under pressure and compressed timelines and to effectively manage changing priorities
Ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of and adherence to, health, safety, environment and transportation regulations.
Project management skills, including but not limited to, providing estimates, proposal submissions, scheduling, planning, organizing, directing and budgeting projects from start to finish.
Must be able to travel within the region on a regular basis and be available outside of regular business hours
Strong computer software skills (MS Office Suite and other operational software applications), including the use of mobile devices
Valid and current Class 5 Driver’s License
