POSITION SUMMARY :
The Plant Manager leads the manufacturing activities at the unionized Brampton Poultry, production facility. In addition, the Plant Manager ensures high levels of finished product quality and customer satisfaction, while operating as a low cost producer within a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
This position is responsible for adhering to good manufacturing practices, health & safety and human resources standards, promoting and leading positive employee relations and initiatives, Maple Leaf Leadership Values, Six Sigma initiatives and has direct and significant impact on profit and loss metrics.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :
Accountable for production costs, labour utilization, yields, results of Operations, cost improvement and Six Sigma initiatives.
Supervises 3 managers and leads plant leadership team in Health & Safety, HR, Maintenance and Production
Continuously improves the reduction of operating costs, using Six Sigma methodology where appropriate
Develops, recommends, and implements the maintenance improvement plan for the plant, including the preparation and execution of the annual Capital Expenditure budget for this location
Responsible for preparing and executing the plant’s annual overhead budget, and direct product cost targets
Ensures that the Company’s Food Safety strategy is implemented and supported through the adherence of good manufacturing practices, and that audit targets are achieved
Ensures that customer service level targets are met through the synchronization of manufacturing processes / activities with all functional areas from demand planning to customer delivery
Manages the performance of hourly and salaried manufacturing personnel via effective implementation of Human Resources processes and policies, and all Leadership Edge initiatives
Maintains and builds a productive / positive employee relations environment
Sets and meets all Health & Safety audit targets
Accountable for all aspects of Quality Assurance and BRC requirements, and for meeting customer product specifications as well as Food Safety criteria
Supports Marketing / Sales with regard to new and existing product development initiatives
Applies knowledge and ensures compliance (where required) with CFIA, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment, Health and Safety, and other legislative bodies that impact plant performance
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :
The successful applicant will have 5-10 years of management experience in a perishable food, unionized manufacturing / production environment, in addition to a post-
secondary diploma or degree
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE :
This position requires demonstrated leadership, superior communication and interpersonal skills, initiative, drive strong results orientation and capability within a complex manufacturing environment
Excellent planning and organizational skills with the proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead the work of others
Ability to coach and mentor others both within and outside direct line of accountability

The successful candidate will have a previous Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement experience, with a proven track record of successfully participating in, and / or leading projects that deliver significant cost savings
Excellent skills with Office tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
