As a strong communicator and a persuasive leader who is committed to the protection of team members, you are responsible for developing specific elements of the safety management system and for implementing and monitoring the system in your assigned geographic area.

You will assist team members in complying with legal requirements, prevent occupational accidents and injuries, and build a future friendly safety culture.

Your role will not only protect the health and safety of team members, but also help teams improve their work quality and productivity in order to support our ongoing journey to put customers first.

You will collaborate with many stakeholders across the company to achieve your goals. Your knowledge and expertise will be critical as you work to influence important changes within our business.

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Safety, you will take on many exciting roles :

  • Provide technical and tactical guidance and support to workplace partners, including managers, health & safety committees, building evacuation teams and other team members, to ensure effective identification, evaluation and control of workplace safety hazards
  • Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and continual improvement of specific aspects of the safety management system and related programs, including safety communications and training courses
  • Work with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to support safety-related projects and initiatives
  • Assist in building a future friendly safety culture through open dialogue and communication with team members
  • Qualifications

    You’re the missing piece of the puzzle

  • Technical / professional knowledge related to accident prevention
  • Strong understanding of Canada Labour Code Part II and its Regulations
  • Strategic planning skills and ability to align your work with company priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Intermediate level project management skills to develop and implement new programs
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve goals in a team setting and work independently or with minimal supervision
  • University degree or equivalent experience and relevant certifications
  • Health & Safety certification e.g. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) & Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Safety management role
  • Experience with large organizations / and or utilities is an asset
