The Microelectronic and Optical Packaging Design group, as part of Sanmina’s Global Design Engineering team, represents one of the key elements of total engineering service offering, by providing services in areas of microelectronic and optical device packaging, multi-
chip modules design, system packaging, mechanical and thermal design. We are looking for an experienced Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer to perform and coordinate packaging design activities within an end to end product development team, to successfully develop and implement advanced micro / optoelectronic packages, multi-
chip modules and systems. The position involves leading / supporting projects from concept definition, detailed design, prototyping and qualification phases, through to implementation into manufacturing.
Nature of Duties / Responsibilities
Working with multidisciplinary team of optical, electrical / RF engineering, reliability engineering, layout, documentation, manufacturing / process engineering and test engineering, to design modules and microelectronic packaging solutions (including lasers, optical receivers, modulators, transceivers, ROSA / TOSA components, amplifiers and drivers, etc.
to customer’s specifications.
Define project plans, manage project activities to meet end deliverables. Coordinate activities of multidisciplinary development team.
Defining design concepts and select key microelectronic technologies in-line with requirements.
Designing microelectronic packages & modules, integrating elements of optical and RF / electrical design, layout, mechanical, thermal, reliability, manufacturing, test and electrical.
Performing engineering analyses including : thermal, structural and statistical tolerancing.
Generating product documentation including design specifications, custom part drawings, assembly drawings, engineering Bill of Materials, common feature drawings and process flows.
Defining specifications / requirements for outsourced custom components and coordinating / interfacing with manufacturers / suppliers.
Working with process and test engineering teams to ensure alignment of designs with process and test capabilities.
Performing engineering product verification to ensure compliance to requirements.
Supporting new business development by interfacing with new customers, defining proposals and quotations.
Supporting product NPI and implementation into manufacturing.
Education and Experience
Relevant engineering degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
Experience in design of RF / Microwave / Optical packages and multi-chip modules.
Expertise in microelectronic and optical technologies, materials, components, processes and manufacturing methods.
Experience in end to end product development, NPI and manufacturing implementation.
Experience with latest microelectronic packaging design
Experience with 3D CAD tools : Solidworks, ProEngineer, AutoCAD.
Experience with FEA and CFD modeling tools : Ansys, FlowSimultation, FlowEFD.
Strong project management skills.
Security clearance is an asset.
