Purpose of Job

The incumbent will provide responsive systems level support for production critical systems, as well as development systems.

This support comprises of technical assistance to users, resolution and prevention of problems in a 7x24X365 production environment, assistance in systems capacity planning and systems level software installation and updates.

This incumbent is also responsible for implementing, with direction and supervision, logical access control and liaison with other departments for assistance with implementing new projects.

Key Job Accountabilities

  • Resolution and Prevention of Problems
  • Presented with system level and application problems on mission critical systems requiring resolution in a timely manner.
  • Often will lead in problem resolution and determination requiring interaction with other teams, including vendors.
  • Developing and delivering procedures to protect production environments from unplanned outages.
  • At times will lead and guide other resources on problem prevention and resolution.
  • Will be required to provide on-call support (via pager / phone) on a 24x7 rotational basis.
  • Provide Technical Assistance to Users and Peers
  • Implements practical manual or automated procedures to fulfil inbound infrastructure requests for environment changes and application releases.
  • Provides technical assistance to other groups and users upon request.
  • Communicate to users with varying levels of technical experience and background.
  • Systems Administration and New Projects
  • Performs system administration processes associated with environment of specialization, new projects tasks include user creation, firewall requests, server / middleware / application and monitoring tools setup and configuration.
  • Will be required to work off hours and weekends to participate in implementing infrastructure maintenances and upgrades.
  • Control Access, Ensure Security and Contingency Planning
  • Ongoing customization and maintenance of system access facilities to ensure / enforce strict security policies of financial environment.
  • Participates in developing and implementing contingency plans for various hardware and software components.
  • System Monitoring and Updates
  • During the course of the year, proactively ensures systems are monitored and statistical information regarding resource usage is compiled.
  • Assists in putting forward recommendations to management for capacity planning and system upgrades where resource constraints are identified.

  • User Group Involvement
  • Participates in meetings and conference calls both internally and with external user groups as required.
  • Skills, Experience and Functional Competences

  • Working knowledge and experiences of application and middleware support (Websphere / JBoss / Tomcat)
  • Working knowledge of Solaris Unix Operating system.
  • Understanding of Bank application and batch processing support.
  • Understanding of other computer systems outside area of specialty such as other Operating systems or database software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Education and Other Requirement

    Requires post-secondary education with focus on Computer Science, Math or Engineering disciplines

    Miscellaneous Comments

  • The position is located in downtown Toronto at 720 King Street West.
  • Incumbent must have knowledge and working experiences on Solaris OS.
  • Incumbent must also have experiences with application and middleware support, preferred with financial industry
  • Incumbent must have extensive experience with leading complex production issue investigations
  • Ability to work under pressure & good written / verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work well within a team.
  • Must be able to work on site and remotely. From time to time must be available off hours / weekend for systems support / upgrade.
  • The incumbent will be required to carry pager for on-call 24x7 support on a rotational basis.
