We are currently seeking a Digital Communications Specialist to join our Public Affairs, Communications team in Ottawa.

This role is accountable for the development, implementation and adoption of digital communications strategies for Canadian Blood Services.

The Digital Communications Specialist plays a leadership role in the management of digital communications strategies and communities for all audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for promoting programs and services and for protecting Canadian Blood Services’ corporate reputation, helping create a favourable environment with internal and external audiences
  • Responsible for developing and implementing internal and external digital strategies and adoption of channels, including working with stakeholders to drafts standards for web content, information architecture, governance, taxonomy, SEO, meta-
  • tagging, style sheets, and content lifecycle; advising on content gaps and opportunities; creating policies and procedures;
  • working with content editors

  • Works with the Social Media Specialist and in support of strategic communications plans, advises on how to use digital tools to deliver on communications objectives, provides recommendations for e-
  • newsletter deployment, builds proposals for new communications web developments, including strategy, wireframes / UX, and site maps, with consultation from IT and client leads

  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of digital communications and provide recommendations accordingly
  • Builds effective working relationships within the organization and promotes ability and flexibility within the communications team by easily stepping into other roles as required
  • Required Skills

    Education, Training and Experience :

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is essential, preferably a university degree in Business or Marketing and Communications and / or New Media.
  • 5 years of Communications-related experience; including online marketing, content management, web analytics and project management
  • Knowledge :

  • Evaluation of digital communications key performance indicators.
  • Knowledgeable about the principles, methods and techniques of video, content workflow, publication management process and brand and graphic design standards, push / pull communication methods and Web 2.0 and 3.0.
  • Experience with social intranets and websites.
  • Knowledge and awareness of best practices and prevailing developments in web technologies, standards and requirements, and ability to apply these to promote continuous improvement
  • Core Competencies :

  • Proactively identifies gaps and opportunities and works to resolve them
  • Organizes and expresses ideas and information clearly, using appropriate and efficient methods of conveying the information.
  • Clear, concise writing style appropriate to audience and genre; secure grasp of spelling / grammar / punctuation fundamentals.
  • A good communications business sense : Ability to analyze a client’s business, understand the objectives and demonstrate to clients the cost / benefit of the Communications department’s service offering.
  • Ability to synthesize and analyse research and information from multiple sources to test, optimize, refine and recommend online strategies and solutions.
  • Due to the rapidly changing online environment, this position must be adept at quickly modifying tactics and strategies and implement new techniques and best practices.
  • Creativity is a core component of this role, especially due to the nature of online work.
  • Solutions-oriented : strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • An eye for detail and content design.
  • Experience balancing multiple responsibilities and projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management skills (e.g., managing expectations, motivating a team, meeting deadlines, etc.).
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills. Ability to persuade others that your ideas are good and will achieve successful outcomes
  • Technical skills :

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite / CS Cloud.
  • Knowledge of HTML 5 and other programming languages as required.
  • Knowledge of Drupal and Microsoft Office 365 tools (e.g., SharePoint, OneDrive, Yammer, OneNote, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Project, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Visio).
