Job Summary

Responsible for providing instruction on a wide variety of group fitness and fitness-related classes for identified programs at the City of Ottawa, in accordance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures, rules and regulations.

Education & Experience

Completion of Grade 10 and Current Fitness Certification from a recognized fitness certification organization (or equivalent as deemed acceptable by management)

Minimum of six(6) months experience or equivalent apprenticeship

  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
  • Language, Certificates & Licenses

    English oral, reading, writingFrench oral, reading, writing is considered an assetProgram specific Certification as required.

    Accepted certifying organizations include but are not limited to : YM-YWCA; Can Fit Pro; Ontario Fitness Council; or, recognized certification from other provincesFor aquafitness positions, current recognized aquafitness certification (CALA, YMCA, WaterART)required inlieu of program specific certification requirements listed aboveCurrent Standard 1st Aid / CPR "C" / Automated External DefibrillatorAODA Accessibility for ALLVulnerable Sector CheckNote : Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.

    Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

    Competencies & Skills

    Knowledge base, skills and training necessary to lead variety of fitness classes

    Ability to speak clearly and actively listen

    Understanding of community fitness environment and needs
