Summary of Responsibilities :

Reporting directly to the Chief Steward and Assistant Chief Steward, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following :

Consistently offer professional, friendly and proactive guest service while supporting fellow Colleagues

Lead the Stewarding team in all aspects of the department and ensure standards are followed

Follow department policies, procedures, and standards

Assist Stewarding Management with the leadership of the department, including scheduling, payroll, performance management and participation in training, mentorship, and promotion of open door policy

Prepare and communicate important information (such as hotel occupancy, banquet functions, and expected forecasted business volumes) to department colleagues through daily briefings

Supervise and maintain the sanitation of kitchen equipment and other areas assigned

Ensure all equipment is in working order and report any items in need of repair

Ensure all equipment breakages and chipped items are taken out of circulation and inventoried

Order and maintain inventories of departmental supplies and cleaning chemicals

Ensure guests have clean dishes by ensuring the Kitchen Colleagues have the dishes and silverware required

Attend daily Event Order (EO) meetings to assist in the planning and communication of all events such as reviewing banquet event orders and ensuring all set-

ups and supplies are in place

Actively promote and maintain a safe, hazard free and clean work environment by ensuring safety programs are in place and all safety standards are enforced with regards to proper usage of chemicals under WHMIS, proper moving of equipment, proper footwear and proper back care procedures for stewarding colleagues

Participate in The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Resort’s environmental program and department specific initiatives in working towards sustainable operations

Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications :

  • Minimum 1 year Stewarding experience is required
  • University / College degree in a related discipline an asset
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Windows application preferred
  • Completion of WHMIS is required
  • Food Safe completion is an asset
  • Valid BC Drivers License is required
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem solving abilities required
  • Demonstrate an eye for detail and ability to organize tasks effectively
  • Highly responsible & reliable
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
  • Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to) :

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, sitting
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
  • Working with chemicals and other cleaning products
  • Visa Requirements : Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
