Compensation : $6,604.53 per half course (195 hours nominally)
$13,209.07 per full course (390 hours nominally)
Please note : Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour / week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour / week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar / lab in each course.
Duties : Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. Qualifications : 1.
Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd or MA) in an area of Mandarin studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of Mandarin at a University level.
Native or near native fluency in English and Mandarin. Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International Mandarin.
2. Teaching documentation : evidence of teaching competence; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references.
Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision. Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-
student assessment; prompt and accurate marking. Commitment to participate in required committee marking including on-line activities, mid-term and final exams.
3. Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including e-workbook, etc) in the teaching of the course, as required.
Competence in the use of email, SAKAI / ISAAK, WebCT, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
4. Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures). Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.
5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams.
