As the Material Handling Equipment (MHE) & Safety Training Specialist you will be a key technical resource in lift truck training and compliance with CSA standards and applicable legislation for the Retail Distribution Centre (RDC) and Online Distribution Centre (ODC).
You will also deliver training on various safety topics and support the enforcement of occupational health & safety legislation, policies, procedures for the prevention and reduction of occupational incidents and illnesses.
KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS
Compliance with Lift Truck CSA standards
Number of new and existing drivers that are successfully trained and evaluated
Periodic ad hoc monitoring of drivers across shifts
Provide support for all Health & Safety initiatives that aim to reduce the number of workplace incidents, injuries, and illnesses.
Health & Safety risk assessments to recognize, assess, control, and evaluate hazards in the workplace
Compliance with Health & Safety legislation and applicable regulations
Partnership with RDC & ODC operations leadership team and employees to explore opportunities for continuous improvement in health & safety
Deliver Lift truck training on all Material Handling Equipment (MHE) across all shifts for new drivers and for re-certification of seasoned drivers.
Monitor compliance with MHE policies and practices across all shifts.
Audit Lift truck inspections and related documentation on an ad hoc basis.
Serve as a subject matter expert in MHE-related incidents and accidents.
Manage and administer the iWarehouse system, database, and documentation to ensure all relevant information is current and compliant.
Generate reports on accident / incident statistics, iWarehouse compliance, among others.
Support and contribute to the development of Learning Management System (LMS) training administration.
Support the rollout and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and training.
Conduct regular workplace inspections and walkabouts to identify workplace hazards.
Support the incident / illness reporting system and documentation.
Support the Joint Health & Safety Committee with monthly inspections and follow up of corrective action for hazards identified.
Support Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) administration and maintenance program.
Support the First Aid Program including training and maintenance of first aid kits.
Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all decision-making and design processes.
Proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needs.

Work Experience / Education / Certifications
Experience operating industrial trucks preferred
At least two (2) years previous experience as a trainer
Driver training certification obtained or working towards completion
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point)
Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations is an asset
Experience with Joint Health and Safety Committees is an asset
