One-year contract.

We are looking for an experienced host for our new Saturday morning radio show for Western Canada. This show has a strong cultural and socio-cultural mandate.

The host for this program is a key player in an energetic team a leader who thrives in the fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

The host must also be knowledgeable about the affairs of Western Canada region’s French-speaking community. The ability to go live and off script at a moment’s notice is highly valued.

The host works closely with a small team to create a bold, inquisitive, people-oriented program that’s close to listeners.

This is no caretaker role self-starters only need apply.

You must have the integrity and self-confidence to bring our programming to life. In their homes and cars, on their computers and mobile devices, you care about connecting with listeners.

You think on your feet, shine in the spotlight and aspire to inform, entertain and enlighten our audiences.

Please note that this is a one (1) year full-time contract position, subject to annual review and renewal.

As host of this Saturday morning radio show, you are committed to staying connected with the arts and culture community and that of your listeners and your team even after the microphone is turned off at the end of each show.

You are a smart journalist with a competitive spirit. Your interests are wide-ranging and you connect easily with people from all walks of life from politicians to school bus drivers.

Reporting to the Regional General Programming Manager and the show producer, you will play a leadership role in preparing and presenting the weekly show and forge close connections with audiences, both on air and on social networks.

  • You will contribute substantially to the planning, design and organization of the program, proposing content ideas and conducting interviews on or off air;
  • you will also interact with program participants.

    Activities :

    You perform a variety of tasks associated with the preparation and on-air presentation of program material on radio, television and / or digital platforms.

    You may be involved in developing and executing the program, and the direction of the program can often be influenced by your knowledge and performance capabilities.

    Your work is governed by Corporation programming and / or journalistic policies and standards, but there is a requirement for creativity, initiative and independent judgment.

    Key tasks :

  • Contribute to the planning, design and organization of programs within the context that the program is typically highly formatted;
  • ensure the preparation of material for broadcast.

  • Propose content / segment ideas, suggest and line up guests or interviewees, prepare background notes and questions, interview on or off air, and provide narration and linking continuity between program segments.
  • Interact spontaneously with program participants, such as guests and interviewees, members of the audience and phone-in callers.
  • Maintain your expertise in fields related to program topics.
  • Participate in public and / or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the program(s) and / or the Corporation.
  • Present and host a weekly Saturday morning radio show.
  • Forge and maintain close connections with audiences and the general public via various social networks.
  • Have an excellent understanding of Radio-Canada, programming policies, and Journalistic Standards and Practices
  • As required, perform the following tasks :
  • Act as master of ceremonies, narrator or interviewer on variety, quiz, or other programs.
  • Conduct research using a variety of sources.
  • Edit program content.
  • Qualifications

    We are looking for a candidate with the following :

  • University degree in journalism / communications or the equivalent.
  • Three years’ comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry.
  • Excellent understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to the cultural and artistic communities of the western region and beyond.
  • Excellent reporting, interviewing and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of issues in regards to the francophone communities in western Canada.
  • Ability to generate original content / segment ideas and creative treatments.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong presentation style, ease with live coverage, excellent interviewing skills.
  • Previous experience as an arts reporter a definite plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and on the weekend.
  • Comfortable with new and emerging technologies, and a demonstrated ability to use same to engage audience.
  • Ability to tell stories with clarity.
  • Ease with live work.
  • Ability to present live events and breaking news.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-playing skills.
  • Ability to be creative, flexible and self-motivated.
  • Bilingualism (English and French).
