Within Canada, our Rail & Transit team has been selected to design and deliver most of the recent Greenfield and Brownfield LRT, ALRT and Light Metro jobs awarded in the last 10 years including the Canada Line, Calgary West LRT, Edmonton North LRT, the Evergreen Line, the Confederation Line and Eglinton-

Our Rail Control Systems team, under the broader Rail & Transit Engineering division, deliver solutions which include signalling and train control, and communications systems.
Our Rail Control Systems team is looking for a Computer Systems Engineer , reporting to the Manager, Rail Communications Systems, to join our growing team in Vancouver.
To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following :
Technical management of transit computer system technologies including servers, workstations, gateways, software, etc and associated interfaces.
Sizing of computer hardware, including technology selection and sizing of historian and data archiving to support Communication Systems functions.
System design to meet operational capacity, project functionality and performance requirements.
Working with the System Design teams, other Domain teams and the System Integration and Requirements teams on specification and delivery of Computer systems into the overall transit, urban rail and heavy freight project solutions
Interfacing with 3rd party groups whose services may need to be carried and delivered over the network system(s) and interfaced to the transit computer systems
Interfacing with design groups (communications, fixed facilities, etc.) and with external team members (architects, code consultants, AHJs, major suppliers, etc.).
Component, sub-system and system procurement (technical specifications, vendor selections, post-award support, etc.)
Support of Systems Design in the delivery of Design Construction Configuration documentation
Interaction with Operations and Maintenance teams
Support of construction, installation, test & commissioning activities in the field
Assistance with customer staff training and generation of O&M Manuals
Skills and Experience :
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with an engineering consulting company; specialist certification, including Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, or equivalent, is an asset
Experienced with the systems engineering and design development philosophy in multi-disciplinary environment
Experienced in selection, design, deployment and setting to work of following in a transit or large campus environment : standalone, clustered, virtual and networked computer systemsone or more Server operating systems (for instance Windows Server or Unix)
Experienced in the generation of technical requirements, specifications, design documents, drawings and submissions
Experienced in and an advocate of full lifecycle software development, requirements management and Quality Assurance methodologies, tools and processes, e.
g. ISO 9000 / 9001, ISO / IEC 12207, ISO / IEC 15288
Familiarity with software development in safety-critical and safety-related applications, including Safety Integrity Levels, IEC 61508 and EN 50128 is an asset
Experienced in preparation and review of cyber security threat and vulnerability analyses and design criteria, and implementing and testing security solutions in accordance with defined policies
Self-motivated and able to work with limited direct supervision
Accustomed to working on multiple projects at one time
Able to interact with senior staff as technical lead
Able to interact and take technical lead within discussions with partners, clients and suppliers
Able to interact with fellow team members, partners and suppliers with excellent interpersonal skills and foster strong communication and collaboration
Able to adapt to changing circumstances, priorities and situations
Able to work in design office, project office and field environments
Must be willing to travel to project sites
Must be willing to travel to vendor locations
Must be able to work away from home for periods of time
P.Eng designation in BC is an asset
