The QA Managers primary area of responsibility is ensuring the Corporate Brand SKU's and vendors stay compliant with Metro's policies.
This includes quality assurance activities related to new and existing products, food safety systems, product specifications, customer complaints and ongoing product surveillance.
QA also supports other parts of the business requiring food related technical expertise. Specific Responsibilities
Responsible to ensure department compliance to business development timelines for the review, testing, qualification, and technical summary for prospective private label products and suppliers
Responsible for third party vendor certification and approval process based on review of GFSI based or other approved 3rd party audit systems and tracking for compliance to Metro's Corporate goal of 100% of food suppliers GFSI recognized by 2020.
Responsible for management and execution of Metro's private label product quality surveillance program including planning, scheduling, reporting, and non-
conformance follow up with suppliers.
In conjunction with Product Development, Regulatory, and vendors review, update and sign-off private label product specification parameters based on risk assesment and shelf stability criteria.
Coordinate with Metro Quebec Quality Assurance team to ensure 100% coverage of our private label product testing and analysis
In-depth investigation of customer complaints when a serious incident occurs or a trend has been identified. This includes working with vendors to establish corrective actions and following-
up thru quality surveillance or other means
Working with multiple stakeholders throughout the business propose food safety and quality enhancements by providing evidence based rationale to support improved business practices.
This position is a member of the Recall team and is jointly responsible for quality investigations with suppliers, including recommendations regarding product withdrawals or recalls.
This may also require occassional dialogue with CFIA or other enforcement agencies.
Accountable for on-going evaluation and documentation of results for all Corporate Brands food and non-food products
Mentor, coach, monitor performance, and prepare development goals for the Ontario Quality Assurance Team
Occasional visits to vendor facilities to investigate complaints, quality issues or new facility compliance
Daily participation in Sensory Panel testing
Develop, review and update department SOP's Qualifications B. Sc or higher in food science, microbiology, or a related field Certified Quality Auditor, ASQ, or similar an asset Working knowledge of GFSI and other food safety certifications Practical experience with sensory testing theory and application 5+ years in food retail, manufacturing quality assurance or other applicable discipline 3+ years of experience managing teams and projects Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Excellent time and project management skills Intermediate Microsoft Suite skills English / French bilingual an asset Metro is dedicated to fostering a diverse work environment.
