Reporting to the Director, Engineering NIT, the Electrical Specialist acts as the Senior technical leader, providing technical support for Nitrogen facilities related to electrical distribution systems and their design, maintenance and operation.

Located at our Fort Saskatchewan Nitrogen Facility, this position, while primarily an office environment, will be required to travel, up to 40%, both domestically and internationally.

At times, this position will require a physical presence at remote locations for extended periods of time such as during turn arounds, repairs, incident investigation and construction, installation and commissioning of equipment.

Key Tasks :

  • Provide technical support for Nitrogen facilities related to electrical distribution systems and their design, maintenance, trouble-shooting and operation
  • Maintain Electrical System models in ETAP including updates to one-line diagrams as needed and provide updated arc flash labels as required when system changes are made
  • Provide technical review of project information including drawings, equipment programming, and project designs
  • Support Process Safety Improvement Team projects including monthly cost and schedule reporting
  • Provide high level cost estimation support for site gaps identified in Electrical Engineering studies, mechanical integrity audits, reliability audits, etc.
  • Provide onsite technical support on projects, turnarounds and outages for electrical distribution network commissioning, switching
  • Investigate and provide design solutions for complex electrical problems
  • Witness inspection and factory acceptance testing of new equipment

  • Qualifications :

  • A degree in Electrical Technology or Electrical Engineering degree is required
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (minimum) Professional Technologist (preferred) or ability to become a Professional Technologist or Professional Engineer.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience
  • Significant experience in specification and installation of electrical distribution equipment including transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, medium and low voltage cable systems (up to 25kV), substation equipment, protection relays, arc flash mitigation, control systems including SCADA, DCS and PLC’s.
  • Significant electrical project management experience is preferred.
  • Field construction management and troubleshooting experience is highly desired.
  • Proficiency with the following software is desirable : ETAP, SAP, AutoCAD, SharePoint.
  • Ability to travel up to 40%, both domestically and internationally, depending on site activity
