Job Description

Bruce Power is currently executing the Major Component Replacement (MCR) Program for Bruce B Unit 6. The purpose of this program is to perform a mid-

life refurbishment of the Unit 6 reactor to extend its operating life by another 30 years.

The Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement (FC FR) Project is a major component of the MCR program. The FC FR Project will safely remove and replace all upper and lower feeders as well as all 480 calandria tubes and fuel channel assemblies in the Unit 6 reactor.

The Shoreline Power Group, a consortium of SNC Lavalin, AECON and AECOM, is currently in negotiations to enter into a contract to perform the field execution portion of the FC FR project.

Shoreline’s scope will include the construction management of the field execution work, the management of tooling, resident engineering activities, training, and other field execution related activities.

As a result, the Shoreline group is seeking to immediately fill multiple positions within the FC FR project. The successful candidate(s) will work in close consultation with other junior and senior engineering and technical staff and will have responsibilities that may include the following.

The successful candidate(s) home office location will be the FC FR Project office located in Kincardine Ontario.

Responsibilities :

  • Assist with design of systems, machines and test apparatus for reactor refurbishment tooling
  • Assist with the design and implementation of upgrades or modifications to existing tooling systems
  • Assist in the assessment and testing of tooling systems to evaluate effectiveness
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents, drawings, specifications and reports to support the design process
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering assessments such as calculations, failure modes and effects analysis, risk assessments to defend the designs
  • Assist in commissioning, testing and field implementation of the tooling systems
  • Assist in the identification of tooling improvements to increase reliability and efficiency
  • Prepare progress reports and other project management support documents
  • Perform duties in a radiation environment when required
  • Qualifications :

  • Honours Degree in mechanical, mechatronics or related engineering discipline from a University of recognized standing
  • 2-3 years of relevant continuing engineering experience in the manufacturing, technology or energy generation industries
  • Some experience with mechanical system design, commissioning and maintenance activities
  • Some familiarity with the design of mechanical components and their design elements relevant to the manufacturing, technology or energy generation industries
  • Proven initiative and motivation
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be effective in a multi-discipline team environment
  • Results oriented, takes ownership of tasks assigned and meets commitments
  • Must be able to work to tight deadlines and financial controls
  • Field experience in an industrial plant is an asset
