What is the opportunity?

RBC’s Office of the CEO is seeking a Writer / Researcher to provide news-inspired insights and analysis as well as articles, blogs, multimedia and social content capturing key research findings for a team producing economics and thought leadership content.

In this role you will also deliver research on a variety of issues impacting business and society, which are topical to RBC and its clients, as well as to the public at large.

You will create research briefs and must be able to write engaging copy and long form pieces in a timely manner.

What will you do?

  • Help the Office of the CEO inform national conversations on pressing economic and societal issues, with a focus on innovation, diversity, sustainable economic growth and the future of work
  • Compose copy for blogs, articles, research briefs and social media
  • Conduct research for a daily internal news briefing, speaking engagements / speeches, larger research reports and other externally-
  • facing content such as blogs and social media content

  • Report on and deliver content and articles related to events and speaking engagements
  • Contribute to editorial discussions by providing insights on linkages within the macro-economy and staying up to date on emerging trends in innovation
  • Work with external organizations and internal sources to help build and disseminate insights and analysis
  • Actively participate in a co-operative manner for the achievement of department objectives and contribute to a positive team spirit
  • What do you need to succeed?

    Must-have

  • Undergraduate degree or post grad certificate in communications, journalism or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years working experience in journalism or corporate communications in a complex, dynamic, knowledge-based environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to synthesize complex concepts and see issues from a variety of perspectives
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver incisive and thoughtful research within tight time constraints
  • Interest in and knowledge of economics, politics, technology and innovation
  • Nice-to-have

  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to be effective working both independently and as a team member; demonstrate autonomy regarding assigned work while working toward goals shared by the team and the organization
