Reporting to the Director of operations the Brewmaster will execute Corporate Brewing standards, specifications and processes at the brewery level.
Working closely with Regional Supply Chain, Operations and the National Brewmaster and in partnership with sales and marketing the Brewmaster will develop new products that will enhance the consumer experience and generate business growth.
This role is also responsible for leading and developing the Guelph Brewing Supervisor, and the Operators (15-17)
Key Responsibilities Include :
Standardizing and optimizing operations by : o Monitoring department performance to ensure KPI’s and targets are being meto Provide technical advice / support to brewery staff including non-
conforming product situations, withdrawal / recall recommendations and audit corrective actionso Monitor daily performance of waste water treatment plant and communicate between plant operator and management.
Recommend operational changes as necessaryo Discuss, implement, and monitor effluent limits. Report results to City of Guelph.
Generate PO's for over strength surcharges based on third party chemical analysiso Work collaboratively with Quality Assurance (QA) to support the national sensory program, including ensuring the use of approved sensory methods and protocols and maintaining sensory training for staff o Ensure manufacturing practices comply with national, provincial, and international legislated requirements and industry standardso Communicate any events / issues that affect the overall quality of the product to senior management and work with QA to resolve
Product Development : o Create and develop new products in collaboration with the Marketing function to support sales objectiveso Develop and adapt brewing formulas from sister breweries for local production, as requiredo Provide technical support to local Sales and Marketing teams to respond to product issues, provide product information, and to resolve QA issues
Business Planning : o Work as part of brewery leadership team to develop regional business plans and strategies, and developing departmental annual Hoshin planso Participate in the regional capital expenditure process to allocate funding to meet short and long term brewing department objectiveso Identify potential disruption to production scenarios by monitoring brewing metrics (analytical, micro, sensory data) and initiate action to mitigate risks.
Provide monthly metrics reporting to management team
Budgeting and Financial management : o Develop and manage regional Brewing department budget and business plans to meet local and national objectives
Build a High Performing Brewing Team : o Ensure alignment between departmental member’s goals and business objectives. Provide regular feedback and performance assessment to direct reports.
Develop action plans to address performance gapso Create a continuous improvement culture by promoting health & safety, food safety, 5S and cost reduction initiatives
Employee Engagement and Development : o Promote the company’s vision, mission, and values in order to increase employee engagement and maximize employee performanceo Generate annual development plans to maintain and improve people skillso Develop succession plans to generate growth opportunities and department stability
Minimum 7 years of experience in food manufacturing industry, preferably in a brewery environment, including minimum 3 years in a leadership position
Post-secondary education in food science or related field
Master Brewer certification issued by a recognized organization (i.e. MBAA) required
Knowledge of brewing industry laboratory (microbiological, analytical, packaged product) equipment and procedures required
Demonstrated working knowledge of food safety, HACCP and best quality practices
Effective communication skills, written and verbal
Ability to create reports and deliver presentations
Computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
Decisions making ability and judgment required to recognize and respond to issues, sort through complex issues, and make timely, difficult decisions

Working Conditions :
Perform work in office environment approximately 60% of the time; remainder of the time is spent in the manufacturing facilities
Some travel required within and outside Canada (approximately 10-20% of the time)
Flexibility to respond to issues in the evening and on weekends as necessary
