Compensation : Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $20.41 per hour.
Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $32.13 per hour.
In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant?s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties : Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. These include :
Communication with teaching assistants regarding seminar content
Contact with students regarding seminar switching
Coordinating grade entry for seminars by teaching assistants
Liaison between instructor and teaching assistants, coordinating meetings as required.
Maintaining on-line learning system (Sakai) and managing email messages, announcements, resources and grade postings on course web site
Attending course related meetings
Co-ordination of marking duties, including contact with course instructor and teaching assistants
Assistance with submission of progress & final grades within university deadlines (verifying each student?s final grade).
Includes use and maintenance of computer spreadsheets for recording seminar marks, essays, assignments, progress and final exams
Review and re-marking of essays, assignments and exams when required
Calculation of grade averages as required by the Instructor
Supervision of proctors for progress and final exams and proctoring for late exams
Dealing with students' questions and problems
Other duties as assigned by Instructor and Director of the Centre Qualifications : -Fourth year complete of an undergraduate program or degree in Canadian Studies or related field experience.
B+ or higher average in CANA 1F91 or equivalent.
Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Studies relevant to the applicable course.
Good literacy, numeracy, computer and experience leading seminars.
