round recreation program for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Central East Correctional Centre.
Please note : This position is temporary, irregular on-call, up to 40 hours per week.
What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will :
Plan, design, implement, facilitate and evaluate institutional recreation programs and special events
Provide instructions, including lectures, discussions and demonstrations in recreational activities
Provide program evaluation and feedback
Arrange for facilities, equipment, and materials required for recreational activities
Ensure security, control, and safety standards are maintained
Provide for the care, custody and control of participants, and respond to emergency situations
Prepare incident, occurrence, accident and / or injury related reports
You have valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Heartsaver Certificates
Specialized Knowledge and Experience
You have knowledge of the theories, principles and rules of recreation activities, such as physical education, kinesiology or recreation leadership
You demonstrate experience in designing, planning, evaluating and recommending changes to recreation programs and special events
You have knowledge of practical correctional and motivational techniques, and you can perform supervision during recreation activities
You can understand, apply and comply with policies and procedures related to institution security to ensure the custody, control and safety of participants
You have a good understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Ministry of Correctional Services Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act
Communication, Interpersonal and Counselling Skills
You can provide clear instruction and guidance to participants in physical, social, culture and / or educational recreation activities
You have strong writing skills to complete routine reports
You can use counseling and influencing skills to promote participation in recreational activities
Analytical and Evaluation Skills
You can use a variety of techniques, including verbal defusing techniques, to assess and deal with disruptive behaviour, as well as safety and security issues
You can assist with the planning and design of recreational programs, and the selection of required equipment and materials
You demonstrate mathematical and grammatical fluency to prepare reports and maintain an accurate count of participants and equipment inventory
Coordination and Computer Skills
You can coordinate activities, organize resources and secure facilities for the recreation program
You can use computer applications to schedules, reports and email correspondence

You will be responsible for obtaining the criminal record check at your own expense and provide it, along with your written consent, to the Transition and Security Office (TSO), HR Service Delivery Division to evaluate the results.
If applicable, the TSO, with your written consent, will request and obtain any additional screening checks as indicated in the Additional Information / Address section above that were not obtained directly by you.
Note : If a Vulnerable Sector Screening / Check is required, it must also be obtained in person at your local police service.)

The screening check(s) will only be reviewed and evaluated by the TSO for the purpose of making a security clearance decision.
