SGS is the World's Leading Inspection, Testing, Verification & Certification Company. To respond to the growth of our agriculture, quality control laboratory , in Montreal East, we are looking for " Grain Inspectors trainee who will start as a sampler and be trained for inspections.

This is a contractual 6 months position with possibility to extend. This is an On Call position, with variable schedule. Main responsibilities :

  • Execute the sampling for grain cargoes such as (wheat, barley, corn, oats, etc.) at customer’s sites, in warehouse or on ships.
  • Organizing, storing, distribution, and disposing of incoming samples for inspection purposes while respecting protocols.
  • You will gradually perform various tasks such :

  • Clean grain samples and prepare for grading.
  • Perform various analyses such as moisture, protein, dockage, test weight, and germination tests, etc.
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate and monitor laboratory equipment (moisture meters, scales, dockage, testers, protein testers, ELISA readers) according to desired standards.
  • Maintain basic laboratory supplies (gloves, dust masks, filter papers etc.).
  • Ensure the cleanliness of work areas (dusting, sweeping, etc.).
  • Follow all requirements according to the Canada Grain Act and Canada Grain regulations.
  • Follow CFIA protocol and CGC standards for sampling, SGS SOPs, and client specific specs.
  • Assist in preparing various reports related to the specific inspections (food, containers and industrial).
  • You must have :

  • Have a valid Canadian driver license and a vehicle for frequent traveling in the greater Montreal and occasionally other port cities in Quebec.
  • SGS and other customer sites).

  • High availability and flexibility to work "on call" schedule with varied work 24 / 7 with occasional extended hours.
  • Bilingualism : French and English (oral and written).
  • Qualifications :

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or the equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or Agricultural setting or in quality control environment is considerable asset.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Practical knowledge of various types of computer software including (Word, Excel .& Outlook).
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Customer service oriented with a strong attention to detail.
