Summary : The Amherst Plant Manager isresponsible for driving operational excellence throughout the entire salt plantoperation.

Responsibilities includeleading all plant employees to meet / exceed targeted plant goals. Key goals are continuous performanceimprovement in Safety, Employee Engagement, Cost Management, Reliability, Productionand Product Availability, and Quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but arenot limited to the following : (Leadership reserves the right to add ormodify these duties and responsibilities at any time.)

  • Cultivates a proactive and sustainable health, safetyand environmental culture that supports company policy, practices and complieswith local, state and federal laws.
  • Provides direction and leadership to all site personnel.
  • Coordinates site production activities with business unit, to ensure that site delivers on business plan.
  • Oversees engineering functional responsibilities toensure timely project delivery, project management, cost control and customersatisfaction.
  • Establishes a collaborative relationship with thecollective bargaining unit to achieve desired results for the company andemployees.
  • Reviews and approves the plant’s short term / long termplans and production schedules. Ensures that related strategies in plantefficiency management, inventory control and coordination of shipments supportoverall business objectives.
  • Controls and / or coordinates the allocation of plantpersonnel, machinery and other resources to optimize production at the lowesteffective cost.
  • Approves proposed facility maintenance shutdowns and / orequipment repairs. Considers relevant cost and service impact to benefitratios, and approves or reschedules accordingly.
  • Maintains plant operating instructions and efficiencyperformance. Insures that KPIs areproperly tracked, communicated, and recorded.
  • Oversees the plant Management of Change process.
  • Ensures that all company standards, practices andprocedures are followed.
  • Overall responsibility for preparation, presentation andresults of plant budget and capital program.
  • Monitors employee performance, development, training andsuccession management needs. Establishes processes that promote highperformance.
  • Networks and actively seeks help from available companyresources. Develops positiveinterdepartmental relationships between Amherst plant, other CMP plants, andOverland Park.
  • Promotes and has an expectation for building a cultureconducive to generating continuous improvement in the operation by championingOperational Excellence initiatives for the plant including Reliable AssetManagement and Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Must be comfortable setting and juggling multiplepriorities; delivering the day-to-day performance of the plant with confidencewhile setting the longer term vision and strategy for the processes and peopleat the plant.

  • Finished goods quantitatively and qualitatively uphold production objectives and specifications in line with customer expectations.
  • Health, safety and environmental practices comply with law and established corporate goals. Employees view this aspect of doing business as a way of life.
  • Plant’s use of material, personnel, machinery and procedures reflect prudent fiscal management and routinely hit financial targets.
  • Storage of raw materials, finished product and other items required to meet goals are organized to optimize safety, production and maintenance.
  • Employees are well trained and prepared to expand in responsibility commensurate to individual potential and company needs.
  • Employee opinions are taken seriously and acted upon appropriately. Operating procedures, expectations and goals, in each area of production and maintenance, are clear and understood.

  • Site leadership reflects a culture of employee engagement, growth, fairness, openness, trust, honesty, respect, and high performance.
  • Interactions with other departments display effective collaboration, problem solving techniques, proactive quality / procedural improvements and positive team relations.
  • Qualifications :

  • Educationand Experience : A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from anaccredited educational institution. A minimum of 10 years experience in OperationsManagement in the chemicals or mineral processing industries;
  • preferably withroles of increasing responsibility in multiple plant locations. Distinct preference for a degree in ChemicalEngineering with understanding and experience in inorganic chemistry processesand crystallization.

    Computer Skills : To perform thisjob successfully, an individual must be PC proficient and possess the abilityto quickly master skills required to function with expertise in ERP systems.

    Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows,Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

    Language Skills :

    Abilityto read, analyze and interpret job related information, Ability to writetechnical reports, business correspondence, prepare and / or review procedures,brochures, manuals, etc..

    Mathematical and Reasoning Ability and Skills :

    The ability to perform higher level math functions pertaining toengineering disciplines. Must be able toproof own work for accuracy.

    Ability to collect, accuratelyassemble, and present data / information in a logical manner.

    Essential Job Functions :

    While performingthe duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands tofinger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.

    The employee is regularly required tostand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Theemployee must frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally liftand / or move up to 25 pounds.

    Specificvision abilities required by this job include close vision.

    WorkEnvironment :

  • While performing the duties, the employee may frequentlybe exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious positions;
  • fumes orairborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee may occasionally be exposed towet and / or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat.

    The noise level in the work environment maytypically be moderate to loud. When andwhere required, all work environment exposures are reduced to acceptableoccupational levels through the distribution and usage of personal protectiveequipment.
