    This 108 year old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of $48 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams : the 15 day annual summer Fair which averages 800,000 guests each year, Playland amusement park which welcomes 375,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, year-

    round events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance.

  • We are looking for a talented individual to join our PNE Food & Beverage Team, who will work under the direction of the Food &
  • Beverage Manager and assist with staffing and operations of the Food & Beverage outlets, events at Playland, as well as other year-

  • What will you do this year?

    In your role as an Assistant Manager of Food and Beverage , your primary accountabilities will be to :

  • Assist the Manager, Food & Beverage with the planning and execution of Playland food outlets, events / functions ensuring all guest requirements are met.
  • Assist with the management and execution of catered events / functions such as banquets, corporate BBQ’s, meetings, concerts, ensuring all guest requirements are met;
  • this may include : room set-up and tear down while supervising and assisting during event.

  • Assist with the Management of a large complement of frontline employees (Approx. 500 Seasonal Staff); provide instruction and direction to staff while trouble shooting food and beverage-
  • related issues during events.

  • Create staffing schedules ensuring that there are appropriate staffing levels for Playland F&B.
  • Oversee the recruitment, orientations and training of new employees on an as needed basis.
  • Oversee functions related to inventory administration including but not limited to ordering, receiving, and inventorying food and beverage products.
  • Follow up on any issues in order to improve service standards and accountable for all issues and concerns related to the Food &
  • Beverage department including a clean, well-maintained and safe working environment.

  • Enforce policies and procedures according to the Food & Beverage Department, FOODSAFE guidelines and all applicable legislation and company policies.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure functions are running smoothly and according to plan and individual budgets.

  • Determine, requisition and control cash floats, ensure adherence to established cash handling procedures, audit receipts, identify shortages and take corrective action as needed.
  • Assist with monitoring monthly and annual budget targets and participate in strategic planning with respect to food and beverage for the Annual Fair
  • Ensure that all operating equipment and supplies are properly cared for, stored and secured.
  • Act as a role model, provide guidance, leadership and management for direct reports and performance manage staff throughout employment
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • What else?

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management role within the Food & Beverage Industry ;previous experience in a reputable, high volume Venue setting is considered an asset.
  • Must have successful completion of Grade 12; post-Secondary education in a related field is an asset
  • Must have knowledge of food & beverage / food outlet operations, and all applicable quality, hygiene and liquor licensing legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills to effectively motivate team members and address performance concerns with staff.
  • Outstanding written, oral communication and presentation skills; ability to speak, read, write and understand English for the purpose of written and oral instructions
  • Must have a proven track record of implementing and maintaining superior service standards : and the ability to communicate customer needs and resolve complaints independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Sufficient financial and tech savvy skills to perform billing and reconciliation duties.
  • Strong administrative capabilities including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and electronic and hard copy file management.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively manage various situations involving clients.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with peers, subordinates, tenants, clients, and other external contacts.
  • Must be able to work on an event based work schedule which will require extended hours and workweeks throughout the year (weekends and late nights);
  • specifically during the Playland, Fair and Fright Nights Season (May to October).
