Abbotsford Community Services (ACS) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual who would like to join our Community Living team.

The Community Living Support Worker will assist us in delivering a broad range of programming and supports to adults with developmental disabilities, across an array of social, educational, and recreational settings.

We aim to foster community inclusion by promoting independence and self-determination, purpose and belonging.


Under the guidance of the Manager of Community Living and through active team participation, the Community Living Support Worker & Skill Development Specicialist will support individuals of diverse abilities with community engagement opportunities and activities which facilitate socialization, recreation and skill development.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Establish individual needs and goals with program participants, their support network, and the program staff, which are appropriate to the person’s abilities and desires;
  • Offer leisure, social, recreational and skill building / learning opportunities that are appropriate, creative and enjoyable for the participants;
  • Identify and access community resources that meet client needs, including volunteer options;
  • Ensure individuals’ safety and well-being at all times, meeting health and safety standards;
  • Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with the philosophies of ACS and Community Living BC;
  • Maintain client progress notes and documentation, as required;
  • Provide some personal care to participants, and
  • Complete additional duties as designated by the team or assigned by Manager of Community Living.

  • Must exhibit personal maturity, self-motivation and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Related education (e.g. Community Living Support Certificate, Social Work Diploma ect.);
  • Mininum of one-year work experience supporting people with developmental disabilities;
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence, a vehicle, a clean driver’s abstract and a current Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR / AED;
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and responsive decision making skills;
  • The ability to work independently within a collaborative team setting, and
  • Strong knowledge of community resources and activities.

    This is a permanent part-time position for 21hrs / week.Days of programming are Monday to Friday from 8 : 30am to 3 : 30 or 4 : 30pm.

    Applicants must have fair availability within these days / hours. Applicants must be prepared to work with a variety of staff / client ratios (e.

    g. 1-1 up to 1-6). Opportunities exist to work additional casual hours within other ACS Community Living programs. A Satisfactory Criminal Records Check must be completed and maintained for this position.
