Job Description

This position will develop as an expert on contractual issues by providing support in the administration of segment construction contracts as required by the subcontracts department.

  • As a Field Subcontract Administrator, you are the onsite expert within the project team on contracts and those parties working for us;
  • specifically, you will ensure that the parties are meeting their obligations under the agreements and undertake corrective action when required.

    You will have a wide range of day to day activities that interface with contractors including writing notices and letters, assisting in the processing of payments, running meetings, tracking progress, facilitating and reviewing changes, coordinating with contractors, etc.

    This position reports to the Infrastructure / Building Subcontracts Administration Lead.

    Your responsibilities :

  • Vet all Subcontract changes to ensure that the quality of changes are consistent with good industry standards.
  • Be the eyes and ears of the centralized Subcontracts Department in the assigned segment.
  • In close collaboration with the Segment Manager, actively participate in the negotiation and issuance of change orders, subcontracts and subcontract amendments following review and approval of internal requisitions by the project management team.
  • Work closely with the construction teams, project management and engineering as well as other functional teams to ensure their deliverables meet the project requirements.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team for subcontract formation based on standard project terms and conditions including requirements Insurance, bonds and milestone payments.
  • Expedite sub-contractor deliverables including progress reports and drawings and documentation submissions.
  • Issue internal requisitions for purchase orders, change orders and subcontracts, subcontract change orders to enable project approval.
  • Lead the review of any claims received from subcontractors, suppliers and prepare & issue an appropriate response for project management approval.
  • Prepare & issue any potential claims to be issued to subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Participate in site progress meetings with subcontractors and suppliers as required.
  • Ensure compliance with project quality, safety, and environmental requirements.

  • Post-secondary degree and equivalent experience.
  • Strong Work ethic, positive ready to learn attitude, attention to detail.
  • A legal mind' - critical, assertive, analytical, persistent.
  • At least 10 plus years of overall experience
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Comfortable with technology.
  • Experience working within a construction environment and knowledge of construction processes by which the Works will be undertaken is an asset.
  • Experience preparing and issuing procurement documentation is an asset.
  • Able to work under pressure and effective multitasking.
  • Dedicated team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong reporting skills and the ability to maintain a firm grasp of the day-to-day occurrences of the applicable segment are critical.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
