Reporting to the President, the Vice-President of Finance will be a key leadership team member who will help propel the company to greater heights.
The incumbent will direct and oversee all financial components of the company’s operations. Working with functional management the VP Finance will endeavour to develop a comprehensive and in depth knowledge of the company’s structure, processes and procedures, understanding the intricate relationships between business strategies, tactics, budgets and deliverables, and then identify and recommend changes that help realize corporate objectives.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable talent in implementing high level, results oriented financial strategies that support and enhance current operations while taking a holistic, comprehensive view on how decisions will affect longer-
term performance. The VP Finance will also have direct responsibility for contract management and provide leadership, motivation and coaching to the finance team, and bring vision and passion to the development and execution of financial plans, financial forecasts and enlightened business planning.
Provide oversight and manage the company’s fiscal reporting. Take an active role in management meetings to review performance and characterise obstacles or potential barriers to meeting objectives.
Develop corrective action to bring results back in line with goals.
Provide leadership on all financial communications with the parent company.
As part of the management team, provide budget and resource allocations and ensure that they drive and support company goals and objectives.
Create, implement and review processes and procedures needed for the parent company reporting requirements. Help identify reasons for, and responses to, variances and forward looking adjustments.
Interact with our parent company to outline and secure financial requirements needed to meet corporate goals and objectives, within appropriate timelines.
Provide corporate compliance and fulfil reporting and remittance requirements.
Oversee audits and provide recommendations for procedural and structural improvements
As part of the leadership Team, set well defined financial priorities and adhere to the decisions made on these priorities
Ensure that rapid action is initiated when faced with the urgent challenges or issues, mitigate any potential risks and ensure that the Leadership Team is kept informed.
Oversee protection in the areas of insurance and legal administration and ensure that downside risk is minimized for contractual agreements, privacy legislation, IP, and Human Resources related issues and others.
Implementation and maintenance of IT and accounting systems to ensure that reporting is accurate and timely.
CA, CGA, CMA or CPA in good standing.
Excellent communication skills, analytical aptitude, and creativity.
Experience as a Controller.
Exceptional planning and execution, with the ability and confidence to provide corrective action.
Leadership, credibility and presence.
Knowledge of regulatory, finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), both Canadian and US variants (including Sarbanes-Oxley)
Experience in senior financial management roles. (Examples : Financial reporting, certification, audit, and SRED submissions) in a public traded, high-tech company.
Ability to lead and motivate teams to produce quality work within tight deadlines while multitasking.
Experience with contract negotiations, and international contracting.
Familiarity with a global currency environment, exchange rates, hedging and reporting.
