Job Summary :
The Driller Assistant provides labor to support the safe and efficientoperations on a drilling rig.
Drilling is hard physical work carried out in difficult and often extreme climatic conditions. Incumbents put up with dust, dirt, mud, grease, insects, wildlife, altitude, extreme temperatures and other outdoor and manual work related conditions.
The work may be underground or on the surface. Worksites can be almost anywhere and are usually located in remote areas with little or no access to towns or normal amenities.
Working time is typically arranged in rosters and away from your home; you eat, sleep and live close tothe job with your colleagues and return home for the scheduled breaks.
Position Responsibilities :
Be physically fit for work.
Work under instructions of a driller or drilling field supervisor.Daily routine work is accomplished with more or less direction depending on thecompetency level.
Perform without supervision tasks for which competency has beenassessed and perform other required tasks under supervision.
Apply BoartLongyear standard work procedures.
Work safely and follow EHS policies and procedures and conduct localrisk control.
Have the ability to apply first aid.
Load, secure and unload drilling equipment and materials.
Set up / pack up drill site.
Support the drilling operations : handle rods and drilling tools,collect and handle samples, mix drilling fluids, carry out basic maintenance oftools and equipment, housekeeping, supplies count, perform basic measurementand calculations, carry out basic operator maintenance, complete pre-
startchecks, refuel vehicles and plant.
May be required to operate non-drilling equipment such as light or heavyvehicles, cranes, telehandlers, forklift, skidders, track-
mounted utilityvehicles, etc.
Communicate in the workplace and work effectively with others.
Provide training through instruction and demonstration of work skills,coaching and mentoring to newer field employees.
Actively pursue competency assigned in training plan.
Position Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent.
Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to perform all job-related tasks.
Experience and skills in the drilling industry or related industryinvolving mechanical equipment and outdoor operations is preferred.
This position requires the successful candidate to meet Fitness forDuty program.
Standard First Aid certification
Common Core training and complete (Records need to be submitted), considered an asset.
Direct Driller Assistant related experience, considered an asset.
